Phone: (07) 4091 4222 About 110km south-west of Cairns, 25km south of Atherton and 15km from Malanda. The park is centred around a deep, cylindrical volcanic pipe with a lake at the bottom. Several different forest types, within a small area, are home to remarkable diversity of possums.
Timothy Sheridan (14/07/2016 02:27) The pictures and descriptions of the crater can't really do it justice. It's just vast, you think you would be looking down into a hole but the sheer scale of the crater and height of the walls is very impressive.

The attraction of Mountt Hypipamee National Park is centred around a diatreme or volcanic vent, thought to have been created by a massive gas explosion. Picnic tables and toilets are provided.
Introduction. This small, but very beautiful, high-altitude rainforest national park boasts a number of 'must-see' features. The first is an ancient sheer-sided crater known as a volcanic pipe or diatreme, formed when a volcanic vent exploded violently some 10 000 to 15 000 years ago.
