A great place. You can go inside and check it out and nearby is the Australian Museum. At night, the cathedral lights up, revealing spectacular shades of colours. Nearby is the Hyde Park and you can get to St Mary's Cathedral by train, alighting at Museum or bus. Definitely come at night.
The extended service felt very traditional in many ways. The coffee hour was very welcoming for serving such a large congregation. I was able to catch a tour right after coffee hour where I learned a lot about the church and art within it. The only things about the service I would have liked to see changed were the less traditional lords prayer, post communion prayer, and that they did not use the traditional 4 bell for the moments after "do this in remembrance of me." It seemed like an extended traditional service with less traditional rites being used.
The Cathedral Church and Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Mother of God, Help of Christians (colloquially, St Mary's Cathedral) is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney and the seat of the Archbishop of Sydney, currently Anthony Fisher OP. It should not be confused with the nearby, later, Anglican St Andrew's Cathedral. It is dedicated to the "Immaculate Mother of God, Help of Christians", Patroness of Australia and holds the title and dignity of a minor basilica, bestowed upon it by Pope Pius XI on 4 August 1932.
Incredible building well maintained. Great that people enjoy and are respectful.
I have a brain injury but went to church here when my mum visited
Amazing place... Peaceful
