02 9895 7500 | Visit Website Parramatta Park (Old Government House and Domain) is one of the 11 historic places that together form the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage property. There's evidence of 20,000 years of Aboriginal occupation and land use and it was a Vice-Regal domain from 1788.
World Heritage Listed Parramatta Park is a must see for visitors to Sydney. Colonists, convict and free, were first successful in growing sufficient food to feed themselves here. The park was too attractive to be reserved for cropping for long and was used by successive Governors as respite from the stresses of running a very large open air prison.
Being excavated from various areas within the Park, the Parramatta Park Trust collection is formed by objects that reflect the history of the site, the layers of meanings imbued in the Park and the changes in the way the Park has been used throughout the years—from being the territory of the Burramatta clan of the Darug—speaking people to its recreational purpose today.
