Once you finish sewing the top, hang your curtain on the rod. Next pin your hem like a pair of pants. Just grazing the floor. Iron the hem after then sew. The photo below shows how I left the selvage edge on the fabric in order to keep the panels as wide as possible. I also like a thicker seam on the sides of the panels.

The length to cut the fabric is: length of finished curtain + circumference of rod + 3/4 inches for ease + 1/4 inch for seam In my case this was 27 inches. Fold curtain over from the top and press the fold. The fold should be equal to: circumference of rod + 3/4 inches for ease + 1/4 inch divided by 2.
Use pins to keep everything lined up and easier to handle while sewing. With matching thread, run a stitch 1/4 of an inch all the way around all four sides, starting with the open end. That way all of your seams will stay put, your curtains will have plenty of structure and will hang nicely. Please make sure to use matching thread.
Pin to hold down the hem. Sew the hem closed all the way down the curtain, using a narrow 1/8″ seam allowance (meaning 1/8″ away from the interior edge of the folded fabric). Do this to both sides, for both panels. This tutorial used the "rod pocket" method for hanging. No grommets, tabs, or hardware to deal with.
Take a tape measure and position it a few inches below the ceiling and measure to the floor. This number will be your finished curtain length. To allow for a hem at the top and the bottom, add 11″ to your finished curtain length to get the amount of fabric you need to cut for each panel. For the side, top, and bottom hems, use an iron press flat.
