To enable community-led recovery, 11 Community Recovery Committees (CRCs) were established across the Upper Murray following the 2019-20 Eastern Victorian bushfires. These CRCs represent the many fire affected communities and aim to better understand local impacts, identify local priorities and develop community recovery plans.
The Clifton Creek Community Recovery Team (CCCRT) was established in May 2020 with residents surveyed shortly afterward to determine what the most urgent recovery priorities were. The proposal was overwhelmingly endorsed, and the Mallacoota and District Recovery Association (MADRA) was formed. The first MADRA committee was formed in May 2020, after an election was held to vote for the 44 local candidates who had nominated.
