Coopworth. The Coopworth is a medium sized, dual-purpose, white faced sheep with an alert but quiet disposition. It is one of the most dominant breeds in New Zealand. It originated in New Zealand in the 1960's from Border Leicester and Romney crosses, and was first imported into the United States during the late 1970's.
The Coopworth breed was developed in New Zealand in the 1950s and 60s by crossing Romney ewes with Border Leicester rams. The adult ewes average 150-185 pounds and the adult ram averages between 175-275 pounds. The Coopworth Sheep is a hardy, durable and highly productive sheep breed from New Zealand. They are easy to care for and are excellent foragers.
