Meeniyan Square is an exciting new development in Meeniyan, South Gippsland. Part of the larger redevelopment of the Meeniyan 'Art Gallery corner', Meeniyan Square is a multi-purpose space which hosts Twilight Markets on summer Fridays, regular monthly Sunday Meeniyan Farmers' Markets year round, and other specialty markets, expos and events.
Originally, Meeniyan was a station on the South Gippsland railway line. The station was opened during the 1890s and operated until 1991 when the line to Barry Beach servicing the oil fields in Bass Strait was closed. Meeniyan Hall. Opened in July 1939, it was built to replace the original hall (1892), which burnt down the in 1938. It immediately became the entertainment centre for the district balls, dinners, movies, cabarets, debs you name it - 7 nights a week. The most enduring event was the Saturday Night Dance 1939 to 1976.
