The intersection of the Buchan River and the Snowy River is majestic, and this campground is in the center of the action.
The road into Balley Hooley is steep and rough in places. Watch out for deer dashing across the road. The grounds themselves are pleasant and the short track to the Snowy River passes a bank on the Buchan where kayaks and rafts can be moored.
Nature at its best
Make sure you wear things or river shoes, heaps of little rocks in water.
Clean parking area
No public toliets
I dont want to recommend it because then more people will go there which was what made it so good. It was wonderful and quiet, spacious and just beautiful. Drop toilets had toilet paper so that's a plus.
Beautifully manicured oasis a short distance into the park. This is car camping accessible to 2WD cars if the driver is comfortable with bumpy dirt roads. Toilets, camp fire grills are also available, no water, garbage disposal so plan to carry-out. There is a beautiful short trial to the river, lined with River rocks so easily denoted. The water is fresh and the area mostly untouched. Saw Roos, birds and a Wombat. Definitely worth a visit to this part of the park.
Beautiful tranquil place! Lovely place for a barbie...also awesome camp grounds, fishing spot & white water rafting. Have toliet facilities, fire pits & ample picnic tables. Definitely worth visiting!

Balley Hooley campground where these images are taken, isn't great as far as campgrounds go but the river and scenery there are exceptional. This was February 2014 and there were bushfires around, the weather was hot and the river itself seemed warm. These conditions contributed to produce a mist...
Tucked away east of Buchan is a small campground called Balley Hooley at the junction of the Buchan and Snowy Rivers. We had been here two years before but only for a swim so this time we decided to camp here for 5 days from Christmas day.
The Snowy River is renowned for canoeing and rafting, and this remote park is ideal for those who appreciate magnificent forests, rugged gorges and wild landscapes. McKillops Bridge is one of the few places with conventional vehicle access to the Snowy River. The Deddick River meets the Snowy just upstream of the bridge and wide sandy beaches with shallow rock pools between the rapids make ...
