Nelson Falls is situated approximately 30kms east of Queenstown, Tasmania on the Lyell Highway, with excellent parking and walking access to the waterfall. From the carpark, the walk is picturesque, with dense rainforest which is typical of region. One of Nelson Falls best attributes is it is suitable for wheelchair access.

Nelson Falls is amazing a short walk from the road approximately 20 minutes on a Boardwalk which makes it very easy.when we visited there was a lot of rain prior and the falls were in full flow which was spectacular. 0 0.
Getting There. View Google Map Directions. From Queentown (3 hours north-west of Hobart) head east on the Lyell Highway (A10) towards Derwent Bridge for 24km. The Nelson Falls track is located on the left hand side of the Highway. From Derwent Bridge head west on the Lyell Highway for 59km. The car park is on the right hand side of the Highway.
Nelson Falls History. Nelson Falls is about 5-feet tall and 20-feet wide, which makes for a quiet and peaceful setting along the Cowanesque River. The waterfall was created naturally in the 1930's or 1940's when a series of floods caused the Cowanesque River to reroute over this oxbow in the river, making the waterfall as seen today.
Park on the western side of the road (the side of the road heading south) near the end of the guardrail that leads to the bridge at roughly the following coordinates: 41.973615, -77.244391. You should see a red sign next to a narrow trail heading uphill at this spot. The trail through the woods to Nelson Falls is easy to follow.
Directions. From Bergland head east on M-28 and turn south on M-64, following the west coast of Lake Gogebic for 15.4 miles. Turn left CC and drive another 1.5 miles before parking at a two-track leading east on the left side of the road. Walk along the track, taking the first fork a short distance from CC, for about .75 miles.
