An enjoyable addition to a visit to Hastings Caves or the Arve River Forest Drive. Take an easy stroll through a forest of stringybarks and stretches of tea tree swamp to an idyllic lake.
The Trail. Suggested as a side walk for visitors of Hastings Caves, Duckhole Lake is an easy 1km return stroll located just outside the Hastings Caves State Reserve. Duckhole Lake itself is a deep flooded sinkhole joined to the prominent surrounding cave network. The walk travels through rainforest and Stringybark forest via a well-constructed ...
We first walked the Adamsons Falls trail and drove to Duckhole Lake car park from the connecting dirt road close by to Adamsons Falls car park. This connecting road was 3km. The Duckhole Lake trail is short, easy, scenic and duckboarded. Most of the trail runs parallel to a creek. My friend spotted a platypus. I was happy to see the lush ferns.
Duckhole Lake is a flooded sinkhole that is part of the surrounding cave and karst system. Turn off the A6 at the junction with Old Hastings Road, just south of the Esperance River bridge in the township of Strathblane. After 1km turn right onto the Darcy Link Road and then left onto Creekton Rd. Continue until the carpark and walking track ...
Difficulty: Easy. The Duckhole Lake walk follows a very well-built, mostly boarded track through dense temperate rainforest. It is located just on the edge of the Southwest National Park, one of Tasmania's most remote wilderness areas. Although the official trail map at the start of the walk shows a track around Duckhole Lake, this is incorrect.
All Year Round. Cost. Free. Traditional Custodians. Nuenonne People. Directions - Located two hours south of Hobart, take the Southern Outlet and then Huon Hwy until you reach the signs for Darcy Link turnoff (watch for blue Duckhole Lake sign). Follow this until you reach Creekton Rd and turn left. The car park is about 1km down the road with ...
Getting there. Duckhole Lake is over an hour south of Hobart, and a correspondingly longer drive from anywhere farther north. We stopped at the Hastings Caves Visitor Centre to enquire about the state of the track, then drove north. This was a scenic route, but the southern parts were very narrow, although still suitable for two-wheel-drive cars.
Duckhole Lake walk, Tasmania created by Robert Jackson. An easy walk along a mostly boardwalk track, through mossy, fern-filled forest to a sinkhole lake with spectacular views of Adamson's Peak. There is a well sign-posted turn off the Huon Highway 3 km south of Strathblane, which is a few kilometres south of Dover.
A few kilometres before reaching Hastings Caves a road to Duckhole Lake heads off to the east. Care needs to be taken on this road. There are many roads in this area and a map is recommended. (More to come). 10 kilometres along the road Creekton Rivulet is reached. Across the bridge to the left is the start of the track to Duckhole Lake.
