Cooee Point Reserve. The Burnie City Council provides a short stay (max 2 nights) free camping for fully self-contained vehicles about 2.5km west of the Burnie town centre. Cooee Point is an un-serviced site with limited facilities and permits are required. A liquid waste discharge point and a water supply point is provided within the vicinity.

In May 1879, a branch was established at Burnie in what was then known as Miller's building. The number of accounts was 40, and the first manager was Mr. Whittle. In 1880 its population was only 300. Burnie's fortunes took a dramatic turn for the better in the 1880s with the discovery of the west coast mineral deposits.
