HINZE BOAT RAMP CLOSURES ️ The Eastern and Western boat ramps at Hinze Dam are closed due to fire fighting aircraft extracting water from the dam. We will re-open the boat ramps as soon as it is safe to do so. For more information visit bit.ly/2KghDtBbit.ly/2KghDtB
With the new western ramp having an irregular open and closed format at present the following information will be of interest to dam users. Met another yakker called Gary today who fished from the ramp last weekend while it was open, but returned yesterday to find it locked again but had a chance to talk to 2 engineers at the gate, and asked for some firm opening info.
The Eastern Boat Ramp is one of two boat ramps located at Hinze Dam. Electric powered watercraft, sail craft and paddle craft are permitted on the lake. You can fish from the shoreline or from your watercraft - just remember a fishing permit is required. We advise fishers to release and not eat fish from Hinze Dam because of the levels of naturally-occurring mercury.
Even if you're an expert, it is always best to wear a lifejacket while out on the water. It's a lot harder to put one on during an emergency. You must not launch, beach or retrieve your paddlecraft on land other than approved designated areas. Do not paddle in exclusion zones, or near the dam wall.
