Fort Lytton provides a great opportunity to experience an exciting part of Queensland's history. Built in 1880-81, the Fort was a frontline of defense against the feared threat of naval raids by European superpowers.
The guides, all skilled actors from a theatre troupe, helped bring the convict history alive by dressing as convicts and staging a mock flogging, much to the delight of the children on the tour. One of the guides told us many people do not discover the island until they have lived in the area for half a life-time.
