The feature event of the Merriwa Racing Calendar is the running of the Merriwa Cup, held annually in April. The Merriwa Race Club provides a range of entertainment scheduled for race day, such as fashions on the field and a calcutta held on the Cup race. The Merriwa Racecourse is located about 3 kilometres to the southeast of the centre of town.
