Such a great place to camp. Clear open spaces great for the kids to run. We were a group of 15 and still had heaps of room. Drop toilets were clean and well maintained but water wasn't working in taps I think the tank might be dry.
Said goodbye to my dad here.
Toilets could do with more regular cleaning -birds nests - lucky I bought rubber gloves and compost able septic safe cleaning wipes!! A lot of rubbish lying around- shame
My mates & I camp at Black Gate twice a year around May and October. A nice quiet place to sit around the camp fire, listen to some music and enjoy a beer or two. An eco-toilet is located at the site. The area near the stream is flat, grassy and ideal for camping.
There is fishing in the stream for those wanting a bit of piscatorial action (no catch & release here please as all we have ever caught is carp).
Whilst the road from Bathurst (The Bridle track) is partly sealed and partly graded dirt it isn't too bad.
The track basically ends at Black gate as there was a landslide a few years ago just a kilometre or two further up the track at Monaghan's Bluff. Only motorbikes can now get through to Hillend.
A good camping spot. A toilet block with a disabled toilet can be found on this reserve which is usually well maintained but bring your own toilet paper as there will be none in there There is a covered picnic area at one end of the reserve with a water tank which usually has water in it. Easy access to the Macquarie River for water activities. Plenty of trees along the bank for relaxing in the shade. Suitable for off road caravans and tents. There are no rubbish bins at this reserve so you must take your rubbish with you.
