The AIS tour is definitely worthwhile. Ruby White (an AIS Athlete) headed our tour. She was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a great insight into the lives of those living and training on site.
The tour also incorporates Sportex, an interactive area where you are able to complete sporting challenges and learn interesting sporting facts - set around a great collection of Australian sporting memorabilia. You could spend ages in there.
The facility is located reasonably close to Canberra City Centre - only about a 10 minute car drive. There is a cafe on site as well as a well presented gift shop.
Great for all ages!!
The tour guide was interesting and engaging, my husband and I really enjoyed it.
The kids loved the experience centre at the beginning of the tour, but found looking at the buildings less interesting.
the AIS is an amazing place to go. The people there are friendly and give an excellent tour, the sports area (sportex?) is awesome. The equipment makes it feel like you are the athlete competing in wheelchair racing, canoeing, cycling arc. BUT, the best is the cafe. the food comes quick and the hot chocolate is yummy.
Beautiful place to spend evening time in the summer. Clean water and beautiful ducks. Good for dog exercise. It also near athletic field to practice.
I was there for the Grease production which was great. Thoroughly enjoyed it. My comments on the venue are
1. Very narrow walking space to move along rows when passing other people seated to get to seats.
2. Very long lines for a drink in intermission - might be worth having a few smaller areas (maybe people walking around with carts) with water and drinks to purchase.
Thank you for hosting a great show!
